CANNES: Restored films by Krzysztof Kieślowski, Márta Mészáros, Vojtech Jasný, Tengiz Abouladzé and Zdravko Velimirovic will screen in Cannes Classics 2021, whose selection was announced on 23 June 2021.
The Double Life of Véronique (1991) by Krzysztof Kieślowski was restored by Hiventy from the original negative in 4K, under the supervision of the director of photography Sławomir Idziak. The screening will be attended by actress Irène Jacob.
Diary for My Children (1983) by Márta Mészáros will be presented by the National Film Institute Hungary – Film Archive. The 4K digital restoration was carried out at the National Film Institute – Filmlab. The Digital grading was supervised by Nyika Jancsó, the DOP of the film, who will attend the screening together with Márta Mészáros.
The Cassandra Cat (1963) by Vojtech Jasný will be presented by the Národní filmový archive, Prague. Its restoration was done in partnership with the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Actress Emília Vašáryová will attend the screening.
Repentance (1984) by Tengiz Abouladzé will be presented by the Georgian National Film Center, which funded the digital restoration, sound work and DCP at the Studio Phonographe, Tbilissi. Actor Avtandil Makharadze and screenwriter Nana Janelidze will be in attendance.
The Fourteenth Day (1960) by Zdravko Velimirovic will be presented by Crnogorska kinoteka, Podgorica and Jugoslovenska kinoteka, Belgrade, and it was digitally restored from a 2K scan of the original black & white negative.
The 74th edition of Cannes Film Festival will be held 6-17 July 2021.
