The Netflix series The Last Kingdom will conclude with Season 5. The series is loosely based on Bernard Cornwell’s historical book show The Saxon Stories, that focuses on the birth of England. The Last Kingdom starts in the year 866 and has so far covered around 912. It centers on the literary nature of Uhtred (Alexander Dreymon), though the name and a few events were inspired by the real-life Uhtred the Bold. The Last Kingdom focuses mostly on the Kingdom of Wessex’s struggle against Viking incursions.
The series premiered in 2015 and beamed on both BBC America and BBC Two. Beginning with season 3, Netflix distributed The Last Kingdom by itself, with the latest season, the series’s fourth, releasing in April 2020. The Netflix series was then renewed for season 5 in July. At the moment, there was no sign it’d be The Last Kingdom’s final run of episodes. But that’s now changed.
The Last Kingdom will finish with season 5, which is now filming in Hungary. Like seasons 3 and 4, season 5 will probably be ten episodes long. It will concentrate on adapting the 9th and 10th novels in Cornwell’s series.
