Kevin Hart is back with his new movie Fatherhood, and it’s a role he knows very well as a dad of four.
“It’s a feeling like no other. I have embraced fatherhood,” the 41-year-old funnyman recently told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show. “I didn’t come from the mom and dad in the same household and the family that ate dinner every night. So the fact that I’ve broken the mold and created that and started that, it means a lot. It means the world to me and I love to see it.”
In the heart-wrenching Netflix film (premiering Friday), Hart plays a single dad who has to raise his daughter alone after the death of his wife. The tearjerker is a far cry from his usual comedic efforts, but Hart was eager to take on the role for an important reason.
“It gave me the opportunity to show a Black father in a positive light. For some time, on the screen, on TV, if [Black fathers are] not getting out of jail or on drugs or off drugs, there’s a significant struggle behind the image of a Black father,” he explained. “This is an opportunity to just put it in a space of positivity, and that was my reason for taking on the role. And also challenging myself to go a little deeper in acting. It’s a serious story. It’s emotional and has its waves. So I’m excited about the journey I’m about to take my audience on.”

Of course, diaper duty may be a part of that choice. When asked if he helps change diapers, his answer was as hilarious as you’d expect.
“I am very much involved, but I’m not that great it,” he admitted to USA Today. He explained jokingly, “What I’ve kind of learned to do is kind of butcher it, so [people will] go, ‘You know what? Don’t do it.’ You know, I’ll put the diaper on backwards, or not snap it properly, then they’ll just snatch the baby from me: ‘Give me the baby! You’re not paying attention! You don’t do it right! Look at this!’”

Hart says he’s been honest with his kids about hiccups that have come up in his personal and professional life, largely because he didn’t want them to hear about them from anyone else. “You have to talk to your kids about it because it’s going to come out,” he explained to Romper in June 2021. “And some of them are cool about it and some of them are not, depending on the situation. You have to understand the different personalities and manage them correctly.”
Hart added that his children know and understand his celebrity, adding, “Unfortunately, there’s a gift and a curse that comes with that. The gift is the life that you’re able to live, and the curse is the spotlight that’s on you constantly.”

Heaven Leigh Hart
Hart’s eldest child is daughter Heaven Leigh Hart, born March 14, 2005. Hart shares Heaven with ex-wife Torrei—and clearly, he’s taken his daughter’s angelic name to heart (no pun intended). For Heaven’s 16th birthday in 2021, the comedian gifted her an $85,000 Mercedes Benz SUV. He also treated her to a My Hero Academia-themed party, complete with an outdoor movie theater.

Hendrix Hart
Hendrix Hart was born to Kevin and Torrei Hart on November 8, 2007. He served as best man in Kevin and Eniko’s wedding, and he and Kevin often work out together.

Son Kenzo Kash Hart, born November 21, 2017, is Hart’s third kid overall and the first he welcomed with wife Eniko. In November 2020, Kevin hinted that the tyke was already being spoiled (with a face like that, how could you not?!), writing on Instagram, “Daddy and Mommy love you to death Zo a.k.a. Bear a.k.a. Hot feet a.k.a. Heavy head a.k.a. pitter pater a.k.a. prince Zo a.k.a. Little Burger King, because you have to have it your way.”
Kaori Hart
Hart adores his littlest love, daughter Kaori, born September 27, 2020. He gushed to Sunday TODAY, “My baby girl is amazing. Kaori, my heart. So in love, as I am with all my kids of course, but we have a new boss in the household.”
