She-Hulk star Jameela Jamil took to social media to post a photo of her new look for the upcoming Marvel Studios and Disney Plus series. The character she will be playing in She-Hulk is the supervillain known as Mary McPherran, a.k.a. Titania.

Titania is a supervillain in the Marvel comics who is known for her superior strength, endurance, and speed. She has a superhuman level of resistance to pain and is able to hold her own against She-Hulk. Titania was introduced in the Secret Wars Marvel comic books with an interesting and very on-brand origin story, though it remains to be seen if Jamil’s version of the character in She-Hulk will share the same backstory.

Titania was born prematurely, which caused her to grow up with a small and very frail stature. She was picked on during high school for this, which affected her self-esteem into adulthood. During an event where a building collapsed, Mary and her friend were saved by Spider-Woman but chased by an enraged She-Hulk, which caused her to run away into the forest where Doctor Doom found her. He offered both her and her friend power in exchange for their loyalty. They took him up on that offer and became metahumans with incredible strength. In the Twitter photo posted by Jamil, she is seen sporting a hair color reminiscent of Titania’s in the comics, and the same goes for her stunt double in the behind-the-scenes photo featuring Ruffalo (posted by Slash Film).

Considering neither Doctor Doom nor Spider-Woman has been established in the MCU as of yet, don’t expect the origin of this villain to go like that in She-Hulk. There may be some similarities, such as She-Hulk chasing her, but other than it appears Marvel Studios will have to come up with an original story for Titania that is not comic-accurate. As previously mentioned, what fans do know is that the actress will sport the red/orange hair of the character and also be on set with Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk.

Hulk has been on a rocky road in terms of getting solo movies. While She-Hulk doesn’t serve as his own story, it’s nice to see the green giant show up in an MCU series that also introduces new characters into the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) canon. It would be cool to see Titania interact with Doctor Doom down the road, but only time will tell what actually happens.

Fans go crazy for accuracy to the source material, so if the red hair is anything to go off of, it looks like the She-Hulk show is in good hands. Disney Plus has a group of new shows coming out, including the long-awaited Moon Knight series. Disney will be capitalizing off of the big screen and the small screen, which goes to show how Marvel Studios has grown since its start with Iron Man in 2008.

She-Hulk is expected to be released on Disney Plus in 2022.
