Marvel is reportedly considering In The Heights star Anthony Ramos to play Jack Russell, the lead in its Halloween special Werewolf By Night.
Marvel may have found its live-action Werewolf By Night in Anthony Ramos.
According to writer Daniel Richtman, Ramos is one of the actors being considered to play the lead in the Disney+ Halloween special that was announced this past August. Ramos is best known for his collaborations with Lin-Manuel Miranda, having originated the roles of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in the Broadway megahit Hamilton, as well as starring in the feature adaptation of Miranda’s In The Heights.

Debuting in 1972, Werewolf By Night was the superhero moniker of Jack Russell (yes, really), an adventurer and son of Transylvanian nobles whose cursed bloodline gave him the power to turn into a lycanthrope at will. Since then, the Werewolf has been a staple of Marvel’s horror lineup, starring in his own series that boasted the first appearance of the vigilante Moon Knight. In 2020, a new Werewolf appeared on the scene: Jake Gomez, a teenager of Hopi descent who discovers he has a lycanthropic curse similar Russell, though one more rooted in Native American mythology than European.
No details about the plot of Werewolf By Night are available at this time. However, Russell’s heroic contemporary Moon Knight will feature in his own series, starring Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke, which is expected to air in 2022 on Disney+.
