The Borderlands movie is reportedly in talks with Jumanji: The Next Level star Kevin Hart for its lead role.
Hart would play Roland, a former Crimson Lance member and veteran fighter, according to The Illuminerdi. With Cate Blanchett already signed on for the part of Lilith, the adaptation of the popular video game series appears to be gathering some serious star power.
Hart is known for his roles in Grudge Match, Central Intelligence, Ride Along and The Secret Life of Pets. He also starred in both of the Jumanji reboot films, Welcome to the Jungle and The Next Level.
Eli Roth will be directing Borderlands for Lionsgate, with Avi and Ari Arad producing. Craig Mazin, who is currently developing The Last of Us series of HBO, has written the latest script.
The film is expected to be a loose adaptation of the games, which constitute a role-playing first-person shooter franchise set on the planet Pandora. After being ravaged and abandoned by larger corporations in search of treasure, the left-behind workforce take over the planet and turn it into a lawless land. However, following the discovery of mystical Vaults, the corporations return to the planet to plunder its wealth.
Directed by Eli Roth, Borderlands stars Cate Blanchett. No release date for the film has been announced.
