NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford police have arrested two suspects — a young teenager and a man already on probation — after a social media post showed them with marijuana and a gun.
On Wednesday, detectives were alerted to a social media post in which marijuana and a firearm could be seen in a vehicle near the Blue Meadows housing development.
When the detectives arrived at the scene, they found 18-year-old Calvin Rosa of Studley Street, and a 15-year-old juvenile.
Police said the detectives searched Rosa and found him with 43 bags of marijuana that had a combined weight of over 2.5 pounds.
He was also carrying an illegal knife, according to police.
The younger teen was found with a loaded 9mm handgun.
Both suspects were taken into custody.
The juvenile was charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license and possession of ammunition.
He was taken to a juvenile detention center, where he was later found to be a danger and ordered held for 120 days.
Rosa was charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and carrying an illegal knife.
Police said Rosa has been on probation since May and was arrested just last week for pointing a firearm at a victim with four active warrants for his arrest.
He has 17 open charges in district court, according to police.
Following last week’s arrest, although he was found to be dangerous, bail was set at $500 and Rosa was released that day.
On Thursday, police said, he was once again released after being arraigned.
