The most popular film additions this week have been the zombie horror Army of the Dead which sees a group of mercenaries take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantine zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted. In the comedic horror Tremors natives of a small isolated town defend themselves against strange underground creatures which are killing them one by one. Another popular horror film that was added this week is Candyman which sees The Candyman, a murderous soul with a hook for a hand, accidentally summoned to reality by a skeptic grad student researching the monster’s myth. In the comedy 3000 Miles to Graceland two con men rob a Las Vegas casino during an Elvis impersonator convention, before trying to outsmart each other so they can keep the money for themselves. Les Misérables is set in 19th-century France, and follows Jean Valjean, who for decades has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after breaking parole, and agrees to care for a factory worker’s daughter. The decision changes their lives forever. Finally for films this week we have the comedy R.I.P.D. where after after he is murdered, a policeman joins the Rest in Peace Department: a team of undead cops who help the recently deceased join the afterlife.
Other films worth mentioning this week include 8 Mile, Bridesmaids, Apollo 13, Twins, Zero Dark Thirty, and Cape Fear.
For TV on Netflix UK this week we have S.W.A.T. which follows a locally born and bred S.W.A.T. sergeant and his team of highly-trained men and women as they solve crimes in Los Angeles. Special sees a young gay man with cerebral palsy branch out from his insular existence in hopes of finally going after the life he wants. Saints & Strangers tells the story of the Voyage of the Mayflower and the first year of The Pilgrims in America. The reality series The Real Housewives of New York City follows several incredibly busy and ambitious Manhattan women as they balance envious social calendars, challenging careers, and motherhood, with the hustle and bustle of the big city all around. In the Spanish series Quién mató a Sara? Álex is Hell-bent on exacting revenge and proving he was framed for his sister’s murder, so he sets out to unearth much more than the crime’s real culprit. in the Spanish comedy El vecino Javier is going through a bad patch: he can hardly make it to the end of the month, his business of T-shirts with de-motivational slogans is not quite getting the attention, and his relationship with Lola is shacking. The last thing he needed was for an alien to fall on him and transfer his powers to him before dying. Finally for TV this week we have Kuroko’s Basketball an anime about five middle school basketball stars who went to separate high schools, and now Tetsuya Kuroko and Seirin High are making their play for glory.
For documentaries we have Amy Tan: Unintended Memoir which sees groundbreaking writer Amy Tan share her life story. In Creating an Army of the Dead Zack Snyder and his “Army of the Dead” team dive into the film’s wild stunts, groundbreaking effects and the evolution of the zombie genre. Hating Peter Tatchell follows gay rights activist Peter Tatchell from his early life to his fight for justice amid controversy and political turmoil. The Oscar-winning documentary The Last Days recounts the harrowing stories of five Hungarian Jews who endured the horrors of the Holocaust and Hitler’s reign.
For family films this this week we have The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle where Boris, Natasha and Fearless Leader take over the TV airwaves to hypnotize viewers, so the FBI tries to stop them with Rocky and Bullwinkle’s help. In the 1991 classic An American Tail: Fievel Goes West A family of emigrant mice decide to move out to the West, unaware that they are falling into a trap perpetrated by a smooth-talking cat. In Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang Nanny McPhee arrives to help a harried young mother who is trying to run the family farm while her husband is away at war, though she uses her magic to teach the woman’s children and their two spoiled cousins five new lessons. Finally in Mr Bean’s Holiday Mr. Bean wins a trip to Cannes where he unwittingly separates a young boy from his father and must help the two reunite. On the way he discovers France, bicycling, and true love. Also worth a mention are the animations Curious George 2: Follow That Monkey! Curious George 3: Back to the Jungle Shark Tale, The Road to El Dorado, and Hop
For family TV series this week we have Bakugan: Armored Alliance where Dan Kouzo and his crew of heroic brawlers battle both challengers and powerful, evil forces as they work to protect humans and the Bakugan. Beyblade Burst Rise sees Dante and his trusty Ace Dragon lead the next generation of Bladers to battle in Japan — Beyblade’s birthplace. In Booba: Food Puzzle Curious Booba is now a chef! With friends Loola and Spike, he creates tasty treats with delightful designs using fruits, vegetables and other food. Finally for this week we have Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous where six teens who are invited to attend a state-of-the-art adventure camp on Isla Nublar must band together to survive when the dinosaurs break out of captivity.
