Marvel Studios has upped longtime exec Victoria Alonso to president of both physical production/post-production for visual effects and animation production.

Reporting to co-president Louis D’Esposito, Alonso will continue to serve as an executive producer on all upcoming live-action Marvel features, such as Eternals, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder, as well as live-action Disney+ series including Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk and Moon Knight.

Alonso joined Marvel in 2005 as EVP of visual effects and post-production, and went on to co-produce Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger. She then worked her way up to an executive producer role on The Avengers in 2011, and has had that credit on every Marvel Studios feature film since, including recent release Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Among her accomplishments, Alonso was nominated for an Emmy this year for her work on Disney+ series WandaVision, and she was also named one of People en Español magazine’s most influential Hispanic women in 2019 and 2020. Prior to Marvel, Alonso worked as a VFX producer on films including Tim Burton’s Big Fish and Andrew Adamson’s Shrek.

Marvel’s animation output has been minimal since Disney shuttered Marvel Television in December 2019, nixing older-skewing Hulu series Howard the Duck and Tigra & Dazzler at the same time. But with Alonso’s promotion following the August 11 debut of its What If…? animated anthology series on Disney+—coupled with the recent promotion of Brad Winderbaum to head of streaming, television and animation—animation production for TV could begin ramping up at Marvel Studios again.
