Kid Cudi reminded fans that some of the best things are worth waiting for.
On Saturday afternoon, the rapper/actor took to Twitter to tease his long-awaited Entergalactic animated series set to premiere on Netflix some time in the future. Though he didn’t reveal any new specific details, Cudi thanked the team that helped bring the project to fruition, and reassured fans they wouldn’t be disappointed.
“Wait til y’all hear and see Entergalactic. U have no idea,” he wrote. “I really wanna thank Kenya Barris, Mike Moon, Elizabeth Porter and the whole team for believing in my vision and helping bring it to life. Everything about this show is next level. Ull see.”
Cudi announced Entergalactic more than two years ago, and has continued to hype the small-screen project on social media. The show, which falls under Barris’ production deal with Netflix, will be accompanied by a full-length studio album of the same name, and is expected to arrive around the same time as the series premiere.
Cudi spoke about the Entergalactic a 2019 Complex interview, revealing he had come up with the show idea before decided to create a record.
“I had this idea for the show, and then it was like, how can we incorporate the music? How can we have the music be a part of the show?” he said. “I initially wanted to make a visual album, but I was like, that’s been done before. How can we give it a little twist? How can we do something different? That’s how I came up with the idea for the show, Entergalactic. I’m trying my hardest to still introduce new sounds and push the envelope, sonically. So it’s still gonna be like everything that people love about Kid Cudi music. The only difference is that it’s gonna be told from a different perspective. Some songs, not all songs.”
Following his initial teaser Saturday, a fan questioned Cudi why they had to wait for the final project. Cudi remained tight-lipped about the details, and simply explained that “next level shit” often “takes time and nurturing.”
Cudi and Netflix have yet to announce an official release date for Entergalactic, but Cudi previously announced it was expected to premiere at the end of summer 2022.
In addition to the Entergalactic projects, Cudi is also planning a tour in support of Man on the Moon III, his chart-topping 2020 album that featured Pop Smoke, Trippie Redd, and Phoebe Bridgers. Cudi confirmed the trek was “def happenin,” and has spent the last several months booking venues.
Stay tuned as more information about Entergalactic and the MotM3 tour become available.
