Films from 11 countries come to Williamsport for an on-screen film festival | Education

Williamsport, PA-Starting at 7 pm at AMC Classic 11, Lycoming College will host the 14th On-Screen Film and Video Festival, formerly known as the Pennsylvania College Student Film and Video Festival, on September 30th. Originally conceived as a local screening in 2008, the festival has expanded to include films from around the world. This year’s festival recorded 1,194 entries from 77 countries. The official selection consists of 22 films from the United States, United Kingdom, Hungary, India, Spain, China, Slovenia, Italy, France, Israel and Argentina.

Leah Bedrosian Peterson, director of the festival at the University of Leicaming and professor of film and video art, has expressed excitement to the judges of this year’s festival:

• Tom Woodruff Jr. (a movie from Tom Woodruff Jr. Grant Julie Awards for Lycoming College), an Academy Award-winning actor and has been featured in all alien and alien vs. predator films since aliens. A special effect artist who has been working on it.

• Managing Partner of Rocket Science, a prominent international film and television studio, including recent films such as Levi Woodward (Narrative), Sean Penn’s National Flag Anniversary, The Trial of the Chicago, May and December.

• Daniel Bernstein (Documentary), Founder of Clear Films, Full Service, Story-Driven Production Company. Use the media to amplify social and environmental struggles that affect the global community.

• Christina Moliterno (animation), lead motion designer for Rockstar Games in New York City. Stephen St. Francis Decko (experimental film and music video), visiting assistant professor of film and video art at Leicaming University, multimedia artist and writer.

“It was exciting to see our festival attracting nearly 1,200 filmmakers and submitting films that put their heart and soul into it. The quality of the films submitted this year was impressive. The On-Screen Film and Video Festival provided the opportunity to show a number of exciting, inspiring and thought-provoking films that helped shed light on promising young filmmakers, “said Bedrosian Peterson. Winning works in each category will be screened at a live event held at AMC. In addition, both Lycoming College student films nominated for the Tom Woodruff Junior Grand Jury Prize will be screened at AMC.

Narrative Winner: “Otaba” directed by Lana Breger

This submission is from the Slovenian Theater, Radio and Film Academy. In this movie, an adolescent girl tries to dream of her mother’s memories while she has to physically witness her family’s farm with her grandmother.

Documentary Winner: “Kerala HipHop: Into the Roots” directed by Akshay KP

A documentary about dynamic hip-hop culture in Kerala, submitted by NEO Film School in India.

Animation Winner: “How to Make Electronic Music” directed by Rob Thompson

This animation, which shows the audience how wandering musicians make electronic music in the wild, was submitted by Maryland Institute College of Art.

Experimental Winner: “Scratches on My Home” directed by Claudia Estrada

“A cracked house like a wounded body says goodbye. When it’s time to heal the wound, evil will bloom someday.” This entry is from the Valencia Polytechnic University in Spain.

Tom Woodruff Jr. Jury Prize Winner: “McLenti” directed by Jesse Belmudes

An entry from Lycoming College that explores the separation between life as a Grammy-nominated musician and life as a music teacher at the KIPP Academy.
