The Borderlands Movie News & Updates: Everything We Know

Here’s everything we know about Eli Roth’s upcoming sci-fi comedy Borderlands, an adaptation of Gearbox Software’s eponymous video game.

Who stars in Borderlands, and when will it release? Here’s everything we know about Eli Roth’s upcoming movie, an adaptation of Gearbox Software’s eponymous video game. Lionsgate first announced the post-apocalyptic sci-fi action-adventure in 2015, and later enlisted Chernobyl‘s Craig Mazin to write the screenplay’s first draft.

On paper, Borderlands seems destined to become a hit. Before Mazin created the acclaimed HBO miniseries Chernobyl, he wrote two of the Scary Movie films, along with the second and third installments of The Hangover film series. So, he’s an ideal filmmaking partner for Roth, a Quentin Tarantino collaborator with a similar knack for incorporating comedy into dramatic narratives. Mazin is also developing an HBO adaptation of the popular video game The Last of Us.

Ultimately, Borderland’s long-term success will be determined by the cast’s ability to execute Roth and Mazin’s vision. And there are indeed some big-name performers attached to the movie, including a horror icon, a two-time Oscar winner, and arguably the most successful stand-up comedian of the 2010s in Kevin Hart. Regardless of how Borderlands is received, it will undoubtedly be a pop culture spectacle, one that many people are excited about.
