With streamlined white walls along with the map of the world in one room and a futuristic display of everything Qatar has to offer in another, the country’s pavilion opened its doors to visitors at the Expo 2020 Dubai on October 1.

The Qatar Pavilion, located in the Sustainability District, showcases its theme to visitors focusing on innovation and the future right from its façade.

Dancers performing traditional dances at the gate of the pavilion welcomed visitors at the Expo from around the world.

Inspired by four elements

The pavilion’s architecture is inspired by the Coat of Arms of Qatar. This includes a dhow, palm trees, swords and water.

Each element is highlighted within the structure by Micael Calatrava, chief executive officer of the pavilion and Santiago Calatrava, creative director at the Qatar Pavilion.

The pavilion’s shape is reflected by two dhow’s sails. The two dhows intertwined represent swords joining together. While the palm trees are represented in a sculpture at the entrance of the pavilion and water features around the structure are inspired by the water of the Arabian Gulf surrounding Qatar.
