Dune World Premiere Announced for 2021 Venice International Film Festival

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune reboot is set to premiere later this year at the 78th Venice International Film Festival. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dune will premiere on September 3 at Venice’s Sala Grande.

Warner Bros. had previously debuted critically acclaimed movies like Joker, Gravity, and A Star Is Born at the Venice International Film Festival. Villeneuve’s last movie that premiered at the film festival was Arrival. Villeneuve’s Dune stars Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Jason Momoa, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem.

Dune follows Paul Atreides, a brilliant young man who is destined for greatness beyond his understanding. He needs to travel to one of the most dangerous planets in the universe to secure a future for his family and his people. Malevolent forces on the planet are fighting against each other to get their hands on the most precious resource, which can unlock humanity’s greatest potential.

Villeneuve has directed and co-written the script for Dune alongside Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. The movie is produced by Villeneuve, Mary parent, Joe Caracciolo Jr. and Cale Boyter. In the US, Dune will release in theaters and on HBO Max on October 1, 2021. Dune director and producers were initially against Warner Bros’ decision to release Dune on HBO Max and in theaters simultaneously. However, Warner Bros. will continue with the new release strategy for all of its tentpole 2021 movies.
