The Church of Scientology has received an unexpected publicity boost after the organisation’s introductory “personality” test was featured on a TikTok video that went viral.
The 16-second video involved a TikTok user in Canada filming herself filling out the 200-item questionnaire along with the caption “it’s so long but worth it”. It has been viewed more than 2.5 million times.
The test is called the Oxford Capacity Analysis (OCA), which some critics have claimed is intended to give the test credibility despite it having no connection with the University of Oxford.
Local branches of the controversial organisation have been sharing the video online and one scientologist even claimed it had driven hundreds more to their flock.
Angela Garcia, a devotee of scientology based in Germany, said the post had “created a wave of people” who had completed the OCA test online.
“Several hundred OCA tests came in to a few German [organisations] today,” she said in a Facebook post, adding: “[the] power of social media!!”
Ms Garcia also claimed hundreds of tests had been sent to Scientology branches in Budapest and Dublin.
It was not possible to independently verify her claims and the Church of Scientology did not respond to requests for comment.
