It goes without saying that 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse may go down in history as one of the worst comic book films ever made and it’s a damn shame considering the film had a tremendous amount of potential to be something great. One of the factors that contributed to its critical and box office demise was the character design they went with for the titular villain Apocalypse, played by Oscar Isaac.
You see, in the comics, Apocalypse was portrayed as a pretty imposing villain who is on the same level as Thanos but in the FoxVerse, the character looked more “human” and quite frankly less threatening compared to some of the baddies the franchise has presented fans in the past. Playing the part also did nothing for Isaac’s career and if anything, it almost ruined his credibility as an actor.
Now, according to his co-star and former Cyclops actor Tye Sheridan, he felt sorry for Isaac during the filming of the project and a lot of it had to do with his overall look and the prosthetics. Speaking with Looper, Sheridan said: “Oh yeah. I just felt so bad for him [on X-Men: Apocalypse] because we were outside shooting in Montreal in the summer. It can get really muggy and warm. It’s a bit like New York. He just had all these prosthetics and this crazy cape thing, and I remember the way he would sit down.”
He continued: “He couldn’t even sit in a chair. He just had to sit on a stool that was elevated. He just looked uncomfortable all the time. I just remember looking at him sometimes and feeling so sorry for him. So this was a much better experience as far as comfort.”

Thankfully, Oscar is getting a chance at redemption now that he’s part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Moon Knight. Of course, it’s still a little too early to say whether or not he can cut it as a superhero in his own series but at this point, the MCU seemingly can’t do anything wrong. As for Sheridan, I’m also hoping that he’ll be able to get his redemption one day because frankly, he was forgettable in the FoxVerse.
No official release date has been announced for Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight.
