Why Mephisto Could Be Introduced In Moon Knight

Mephisto may have failed to make an appearance on WandaVision, but Marvel’s equivalent of The Devil may well be part of the Moon Knight show. Most people love a good old-fashioned fan theory, as one of the best parts of watching a series of movies or an ongoing TV show is wondering what crazy thing might happen to the characters next. There’s also a lot of fun to be had in trying to guess what surprising new character might be thrown into the mix, at least when dealing with an established franchise like Marvel.

This proved true with Mephisto when it came to WandaVision, and we here at Screen Rant no doubt participated in that particular discussion. There was certainly reason to guess Mephisto might be part of WandaVision, as he has history with Scarlet Witch in Marvel Comics, and also appeared in a memorable comic storyline involving Wanda giving birth to twin sons that also involved the powerful witch Agatha Harkness. Alas, Mephisto, didn’t figure into the show, even though the stage seemed to be set for him to do so.

However, there are many more Marvel Studios shows on their way to Disney+, including one centering on Moon Knight. Here’s why we think Mephisto might be introduced during that particular program.

Why Mephisto Could Be Introduced In Moon Knight

While Moon Knight, aka Marc Spector, might not be the first Marvel superhero that comes to fans’ minds when Mephisto is mentioned, they actually do have a history in the comics. In fact, a very recent arc saw Mephisto resort to drastic measures in order to try and prevent a catastrophic future he believed Mephisto would be responsible for creating. Both Moon Knight and his patron saint Khonshu, the Egyptian god of the moon, were plagued with visions of this future, and decided to take Mephisto out.

To do this, Moon Knight systematically stripped the Avengers of their powers, becoming powerful enough to defeat Mephisto. He then gave most of this amassed power to Khonshu, which faster than one can say “absolute power corrupts absolutely,” had led to its own bad outcome. While Mephisto getting involved in Moon Knight’s TV show doesn’t necessarily have to lead to that story, or one like it, playing out, it’s not at all hard to imagine Marvel’s Satanic villain showing up to interfere in whatever Moon Knight gets up to. And if not, fans will probably get over it fast, if Marvel’s Disney+ shows continue being so good. Let the complex and involved fan theories begin!
