The MCU and Disney+ are proving to be a match made in heaven. Both WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier have proven to verifiable hits, and the hype growing around Loki is massive. It also seems like there’s an announcement every other day about another character getting a series.
That being said, there are still a lot of great Marvel characters out there, many that would do better in a series than a movie. Some stories need more time to tell properly, and those characters would benefit greatly from that extra time. While they might not all end up getting their own series, it’s hard to deny that they would be highly entertaining.
10 It’s Time For The Punisher To Join Disney+
During Marvel’s run on Netflix, the one series that stood out the most involved Frank Castle, aka The Punisher. Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of the character combined with an emotional, engaging story made for the best interpretation of the character of all time.
At some point, Punisher will return to the MCU and a Disney+ series would make the most sense. So far, it seems like Disney and Marvel have committed to keep Bernthal in the role. It’s hard to imagine anyone else playing the character.
9 Doctor Doom Needs His Own Series
Fans have been waiting for any news regarding the Fantastic Four in the MCU. They know the movie is coming, but basically, no other details have been released. All anyone wants at this point is a better movie than Fant4stic, which is a pretty low bar.
A huge part of the Fantastic Four is Doctor Doom, possibly Marvel’s greatest villain. Rather than being a bad guy in a movie, building his character through a Disney+ series would be incredible. His backstory is unique and interesting, and it would be a great way to bring a whole new element to the MCU.
8 The Best Way To Introduce Wolverine
Just like the Fantastic Four, MCU fans have been wondering when and how the X-Men would be making their debut. If people are frustrated by the lack of details regarding the Fantastic Four, then the utter void of details relating to the X-Men must be driving people insane.
Not surprisingly, Wolverine was the star of the Fox X-Men franchise. As such, starting with Wolverine in the MCU as part of a Disney+ series actually makes a lot of sense. The character’s history in Marvel runs back even further than even Captain America’s, making him an interesting window into its past.
7 Disney+ Could Redeem Iron Fist
If The Punisher was the high watermark of Marvel’s time on Netflix, then Iron Fist was rock bottom. The series made some bad decisions with the story as well as casting, particularly in the main character. It just didn’t work.
But fully re-envisioning the character as part of his own Disney+ series could be the perfect way to give Iron Fist a second chance. He has a lot of potential and that might finally be realized on the streaming service.
6 Night Thrasher Is Worth Considering
One of Marvel’s most 1990s characters was Night Thrasher. A wealthy, highly trained martial artist in battle armor who rode a skateboard, Night Thrasher was the leader of the New Warriors. But he and his team had trouble remaining relevant in the 2000s.
Regardless, Night Thrasher remains an engaging character. His story is a lot different than any other one in the MCU. Plus, Night Thrasher could easily be included as part of a backdoor pilot in the upcoming Moon Knight series.
5 The Journey Of Ghost Rider Is Intriguing
Bringing Ghost Rider out of the comics has been difficult at best. Two movies starring Nicholas Cage were made, but not particularly well received. A more recent version of the character was featured in a season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Again, fan response was tepid at best.
At this point, the Spirit of Vengeance is desperately in need of a full-on reboot. Disney+ would be the best place for that as it would allow for the depth of story required to fully flesh the character out.
4 Blade Might Work Better As A Series
Marvel has made it quite clear that a rebooted Blade movie is on the way, this time starring Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali. It’s a brilliant piece of casting on the part of Marvel and Disney to say the least.
But a movie may be the wrong way to go. Blade’s story is bigger and more intricate than a lot of people understand. A Disney+ series focused on the character would give fans a better chance to get to know the character better.
3 Mockingbird Deserves More MCU Development
When it comes to characters with unique histories, Mockingbird takes the cake. A former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Avenger, and Hawkeye’s ex-wife, she was thought dead for years. It turned out she had been replaced by a Skrull, a revelation that kicked off the Secret Invasion storyline.
Mockingbird has technically already appeared in the MCU as part of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. There was supposed to be a spinoff series featuring her, but that never happened. Disney+ provides an opportunity to finally follow through on that premise.
2 Squirrel Girl Has Been Discussed For Years
There are a lot of names that keep coming up when discussing potential additions to the MCU. A big one has long been Squirrel Girl, a quirky hero who can talk to squirrels and holds victories over the likes of Doctor Doom.
She would make an interesting addition to the MCU and was supposed to appear as part of the canceled New Warriors TV series which would have also included Night Thrasher. If Squirrel Girl doesn’t get her own series, revisiting the New Warriors series on Disney+ might be a good idea.
1 Pull The Trigger On Wonder Man
Marvel has been dancing around this character for years. Wonder Man is a classic hero who played a huge role in many major Marvel stories over the years. And he was certainly someone who fans expected to see in the MCU by now.
The character’s debut was flirted with in the second Guardians of the Galaxy movie, but nothing came of it. Being that Wonder Man is an actor, a Disney+ series could be an interesting, highly meta experience for fans.
