In the early seasons of Fortnite, the game would give not-so-subtle nods to licensed characters by creating skins with similar appearances and names that indirectly point to the character. For example, in season 3 there was a skin in the battle pass called “The Reaper” that was obviously supposed to be John Wick.
Now that Fortnite has gained so much popularity, many franchises actually incorporate their characters into the game, with John Wick and many other famous characters becoming real skins in the game. Out of the many collaborations that Fortnite has done, a few stand out from the rest.
10 Marshmello
Marshmello’s collab with Fortnite deserves recognition because he was already notable for being a player of the game, but it also received extra attention because of the concert that was made to help promote the skin.
Marshmello was the first artist to ever do a live concert on Fortnite, one that granted players free emotes for attending as well. Nearly everyone showed up to the concert in the Marshmello skin, and whether or not players still use it, it’s certainly memorable.
9 Major Lazer
Major Lazer was yet another artist to have their skin released along with a concert in the Party Royale mode. This set came out with the Major Lazer character, a dance, and two soundtracks.
One of the best things about this skin is that it can actually go well with many items in the game, as the character naturally matches the vibe and aesthetic of many Fortnite skins. Even though the concert is long over, there are still people who sport the Major Lazer skin.
8 Borderlands 3
Out of all of the video game collaborations that Fortnite has done, Borderlands is the only one who truly managed to fit into the Fortnite world.
That is especially because Fortnite temporarily implemented the art style of the Borderlands games onto the map. While in the deserted areas of the map, players felt like they were in a completely different game as they were able to enter Pandora. Unlike Lara Croft and Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn, Claptrap feels more in place in Fortnite.
7 Avengers: Endgame
Black Widow and Star-Lord were both released for the Avengers: Endgame event and it was an exciting sight to see. At the time, it was shocking for fans of the game to see two major Marvel characters in the game.
They eventually completely remade the Black Widow skin, making the first one feel sort of irrelevant. Either way, the skins paired with the event was a fun time and it’s always great when the Marvel skins are back in the shop.
6 Deadpool
Deadpool was the first licensed character to make an appearance in a Fortnite battle pass, and a good majority of the pass revolved around him.
It was shocking and definitely set a new standard for future passes, and Fortnite didn’t fail to deliver. Many fans of the game would have never expected the R-Rated character to make an appearance in the kid-friendly game, but Epic Games proved they’re willing to push the limits with the release of this skin.
5 Astronomical
Whether or not players were Travis Scott fans, it’s hard to deny that the Astronomical collab and event were both very exciting. New players were introduced to his music, and many fans of the game bought the skins.
This collab came with two skins, the Travis Scott one and the Astro Jack skin, which is cool even if players aren’t a fan of Travis Scott. Also, there was a free emote and glider that were a part of the collab for those who attended the event, and everyone loves free stuff.
4 Batman
Batman and Catwoman were both released as part of the Batman collab, which also brought the famous Gotham City to Tilted Towers for a short time.
Entering Gotham and playing as one of the most iconic DC heroes on Fortnite was completely iconic. As for the skins themselves, both were clean and accurate to the original comics characters. Also, the fact that Marvel heroes are also in the game makes it even more thrilling, as fans can make their own DC/Marvel crossover.
3 Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker
Star Wars‘ collab with the game was unexpected yet thrilling, as it brought multiple characters including Rey, Kylo, Finn, and even the iconic stormtrooper.
Before The Rise of Skywalker came out, players of the game were able to get an exclusive sneak peek of the film on Fortnite, viewable through the Star Wars event. Not only that, but lightsabers were also present in the game, which made for some cool battles between Rey and Kylo all within Fortnite.
2 John Wick
In season 3, there was an unofficial John Wick skin called The Reaper, but back then, the battle pass was incredibly difficult, and not many people were able to unlock it, making it one of the rarest skins in the game.
After Fortnite did a collab with John Wick, fans were shocked they actually put a real version of the character in the game. It garnered so much hype, especially for the long-term Fortnite fans who were never able to get the original version.
1 Harley Quinn
Out of every Fortnite collab, the Harley Quinn skin is certainly one of the most popular. Even though this one came out last year, there are still tons of people who regularly wear the skin.
This isn’t all that surprising, considering how popular the character became after Margot Robbie’s interpretation in Suicide Squad. Even though this skin came out all on its own, with no event or changes to the map, it still takes the number one spot for being one of the most used skins.
