No “God of War” Film Or Series Planned

Along with that “Uncharted” photo yesterday, a feature piece on game-to-film adaptations in The New York Times has cleared up some of Sony’s plans to adapt PlayStation game properties for film and television.

Recently PlayStation president Jim Ryan stated that the Tom Holland-led $120 million-budgeted “Uncharted” is “just the beginning” of Sony’s plan to bring its game IPs to a wider media landscape.

With this article though, a spokesperson for the studio says that currently there are ten game adaptations in the Sony Pictures pipeline either in development or production.

This includes the already confirmed projects – the “Uncharted” movie, “The Last of Us” HBO series, the “Twisted Metal” series from the writers of “Deadpool,” and the Chad Stahleski-directed “Ghost of Tsushima” movie. Sony is also involved in the new more horror-toned film reboot of the “Resident Evil” franchise which is currently undergoing reshoots.

One project that is NOT in development Sony though? A “God of War” movie with the spokesperson directly confirming an adaptation is not currently in development “at least not anytime soon.”

Also on the way from rivals is the “Halo” TV series for the Paramount+ service, the sequel to Paramount’s hit “Sonic the Hedgehog,” Lionsgate’s film adaptation of the “Borderlands” franchise, Amazon’s planned “Fallout” TV series, Universal and Illumination Entertainment’s animated Mario movie, and several Netflix works including TV series like “Assassin’s Creed,” “Resident Evil,” “Splinter Cell” and “Cuphead” along with the long in the works “The Division” film.
