Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick has made it official, he is running for re-election in 2022. The announcement comes as no surprise as Patrick has already been endorsed for re-election by former President Donald Trump and has said numerous times during the legislative session that he would run for re-election.
Patrick was first elected as Lieutenant Governor in 2014 and re-elected in 2018. In an announcement on Thursday, Patrick told supporters that even though Democrats are talking about turning Texas blue, he won’t that happen. Patrick said the Democrats would be crush again.
“I am running for re-election in 2022. Democrats are bragging again that they are going to turn Texas blue and I am not about to let that happen. We will crush them again in 2022. We have to push back and stop the destructive policies of the Biden Administration – open borders, anti-life, anti-Second Amendment and the spending of trillions of dollars that will raise your taxes. I look forward to working with you in the months ahead to Keep Texas Red.”
As of right now, Patrick does not a have an opponent in the Republican primary. He does have a Democrat opponent. Mike Collier, who ran against Patrick in 2018 is back to challenge Patrick in the general election. Collier came within five percentage points of defeating Patrick.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Mike Collier responded to Patrick’s news by saying Patrick did not care about the lives of Texans.
“Dan Patrick has proven that he doesn’t care about the needs of everyday Texans and he refuses to lead on the issues that Texans care about the most,”
