Abomination star Tim Roth has discussed his return as the hulking beast in Marvel’s She-Hulk.
Heads turned when it was announced that Tim Roth would be reprising his role as the Abomination for the Disney Plus series She-Hulk. Roth first appeared as the Abomination in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, a film that the Marvel Cinematic Universe now seems to openly embrace. Roth most recently appeared as Abomination in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. In the film, Abomination was seen battling Wong in a somewhat friendly cage match. Now, the character is poised to return in She-Hulk, which will also feature Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo.
In a recent chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Tim Roth opened up about why he decided to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“I did The Incredible Hulk years ago, just because I thought my kids would be embarrassed by it. I did it for them and I really enjoyed making it. So when they came to me and said: ‘We’re adapting the She-Hulk thing. Can you come back as that character again?’ I was like, sure. It should be fun.”
The frequent Quentin Tarantino collaborator then discussed how he worked alongside Mark Ruffalo on the Marvel project. He hinted at how it was difficult to get into the character – likely via motion capture – which Ruffalo is clearly an expert in at this point.
“I was very surprised though because it was difficult at first. It was only when Mark Ruffalo came in to shoot his stuff [reprising his role as Bruce Banner] that I went: ‘Oh, that’s how you do it! With a sense of humor!’”
Details on She-Hulk are slim at the moment and it’s unclear if Abomination will be a villain in the project. In Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Abomination had a friendly relationship with the sorcerer Wong, implying that Roth’s character might be done with being a nefarious tension starter.
Marvel Studios’ upcoming slate of films includes The Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Thor: Love and Thunder. In addition to the aforementioned feature films and She-Hulk series, Marvel Studios is developing several shows for Disney Plus, including Loki, What If…?, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, and Moon Knight.
She-Hulk is currently slated for a 2022 release on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news on Marvel’s upcoming Disney Plus original series and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content!
